Job Summary

The SMT AOI and SPI Expert is responsible for supporting and optimizing manufacturing processes in Surface Mount Technology (SMT) operations to ensure consistent product quality, efficiency, and yield improvement. This role involves leading inspection programming and yield optimization across our SMT production lines. In addition to AOI/SPI expertise, this role incorporates process engineering responsibilities to ensure robust, efficient, and high-quality SMT operations. Experience in Automated Optical Inspection (AOI) and Solder Paste Inspection (SPI), preferably using Magicray systems, is required to support inspection accuracy and process validation.

Responsibilities

  • Programs, configures, and optimizes AOI and SPI systems for accurate defect detection.
  • Maintains and updates inspection libraries, criteria, and test programs.
  • Analyzes inspection data to identify yield trends and recurring issues.
  • Provides technical support and training to operators and technicians.
  • Performs troubleshooting and immediate corrective actions on machine issues, process abnormalities, and production defects.
  • Conducts regular inspection and verification using AOI and SPI systems, preferably Magicray, to ensure accurate defect detection and process validation.
  • Analyzes AOI/SPI results and implement improvements to reduce defects such as solder bridges, insufficient solder, misalignment, and voids.
  • Supports line sustaining activities including machine calibration, preventive maintenance coordination, and process checks.
  • Drives continuous process improvement initiatives to enhance yield, reduce scrap, and improve Overall Equipment Efficiency (OEE).
  • Performs root cause analysis (RCA) and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) for recurring process issues.
  • Collaborates with Process Engineers, Quality, and Production teams to establish and maintain stable and capable processes.
  • Assists in new product introduction (NPI) by supporting process setup, validation runs, and process documentation.
  • Ensures adherence to work instructions, process standards, and ESD and safety requirements.
  • Monitors key performance indicators (KPIs) and provides timely reports on process performance, yield, and defects.
  • Participates in continuous improvement activities such as Kaizen, Lean, and Six Sigma projects.
  • Maintains accurate documentation of machine parameters, process adjustments, and improvement activities.
  • Supports training of operators on proper machine handling, inspection criteria, and basic troubleshooting.
  • Ensures compliance with IPC-A-610 standards, ESD practices, and company quality policies.

Must Have

  • Graduate of Bachelor’s degree in Electronics, Manufacturing, or related field.
  • With five (5) years of experience in SMT manufacturing with hands-on AOI and SPI programming.
  • Strong knowledge of SMT processes, solder paste application, and defect classification (IPC)
  • Knowledge of SPI and AOI Programming and Optimization using MagicRay systems.
